Remove Outdoor Light Fixture

Replacing an outdoor light fixture is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few hours. However, before you start, it is important to take some safety precautions:

  1. Turn off the power to the light fixture at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  2. Wait for the fixture to cool down completely.
  3. Wear gloves and safety glasses to protect yourself from any broken glass or sharp edges.

Once you have taken these safety precautions, you can begin removing the light fixture.

  1. Remove the screws that hold the fixture to the mounting bracket. There will typically be two or three screws located around the base of the fixture.
  2. Carefully pull the fixture away from the mounting bracket. Be careful not to drop the fixture or damage any of the wires.
  3. Disconnect the wires from the fixture. There will typically be two or three wires connected to the fixture. Use a pair of pliers to twist the wire nuts off of the wires, and then pull the wires apart.
  4. Remove the mounting bracket from the wall. There will typically be two or three screws that hold the mounting bracket to the wall. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws, and then pull the mounting bracket off of the wall.

Once you have removed the old light fixture, you can install the new one. To do this, simply follow the steps in reverse order.

  1. Attach the mounting bracket to the wall. Use a screwdriver to drive the screws into the wall.
  2. Connect the wires to the fixture. Twist the wire nuts onto the wires, and then push the wires into the fixture.
  3. Push the fixture onto the mounting bracket. The fixture will typically snap into place.
  4. Secure the fixture with screws. There will typically be two or three screws located around the base of the fixture.
  5. Turn on the power to the light fixture at the circuit breaker or fuse box.

Your new outdoor light fixture is now installed and ready to use.
