How to Test Outdoor LED Light Fixtures

Outdoor LED light fixtures are a great way to add safety and security to your home, but they can be expensive to replace if they fail. By following these simple steps, you can test your outdoor LED light fixtures and ensure that they are working properly.

1. Gather your materials

You will need the following materials to test your outdoor LED light fixtures:

  • A multimeter
  • A flashlight
  • A pair of gloves
  • A screwdriver

2. Disconnect the power to the light fixture

Before you begin working on the light fixture, you should disconnect the power to prevent electrical shock. To do this, turn off the circuit breaker or fuse that supplies power to the light fixture.

3. Remove the light fixture housing

Once the power is disconnected, use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the light fixture housing in place. Carefully remove the housing and set it aside.

4. Inspect the LED bulbs

Once the housing is removed, you can inspect the LED bulbs. Look for any signs of damage, such as burnt-out filaments or broken glass. If you find any damaged bulbs, they should be replaced.

5. Test the LED bulbs with a multimeter

To test the LED bulbs with a multimeter, set the multimeter to the ohms setting. Then, touch the probes of the multimeter to the terminals of the LED bulb. If the multimeter reads a resistance of infinity, the bulb is burnt out and should be replaced.

6. Inspect the wiring

Once you have tested the LED bulbs, you should inspect the wiring to make sure that it is in good condition. Look for any signs of damage, such as frayed or broken wires. If you find any damaged wires, they should be repaired or replaced.

7. Reinstall the light fixture housing

Once you have inspected the wiring, you can reinstall the light fixture housing. To do this, simply reverse the steps that you followed to remove the housing.

8. Turn on the power to the light fixture

Once the light fixture housing is reinstalled, you can turn on the power to the light fixture. If the LED bulbs light up, then the light fixture is working properly.

By following these simple steps, you can test your outdoor LED light fixtures and ensure that they are working properly.
