How to Replace an Outdoor Wall Lantern
Replacing an outdoor wall lantern might seem like a daunting task, but it's actually quite simple with the right steps. If you're looking to upgrade your outdoor lighting, here are the essential aspects:
Safety First: Before you begin, turn off the power to the lantern at the circuit breaker or fuse box. This will prevent any electrical shocks.
Gather Your Tools: You'll need a screwdriver (Phillips or flathead, depending on the lantern), electrical tape, wire strippers, and a ladder if the lantern is mounted high.
Remove the Old Lantern: Use the screwdriver to remove the screws holding the lantern in place. Carefully pull the lantern away from the wall, being mindful of any wires attached to it.
Disconnect the Wires: Once the lantern is removed, you'll see the wires connected to it. Take a picture of the wiring for reference later. Use the screwdriver to loosen the screws on the wire terminals and disconnect the wires.
Prepare the New Lantern: Unpack your new lantern and check the instructions. Strip about half an inch of insulation from the ends of the wires on the new lantern.
