How to Put Fairy Lights on Outdoor Trees

Fairy lights are a wonderful way to add a touch of magic to your outdoor space, and they can be especially enchanting when strung up in trees. However, getting the lights up and looking their best can be a bit of a challenge. Here are a few tips to help you do it safely and easily:

1. Choose the right lights

Not all fairy lights are created equal. When choosing lights for outdoor use, be sure to select those that are rated for outdoor use. This will ensure that they can withstand the elements and last for several seasons.

2. Measure the tree

Before you start stringing lights, it's important to measure the tree so that you know how many lights you need. To do this, simply measure the circumference of the tree at the base and then multiply that number by the height of the tree. This will give you the approximate number of lights you need.

3. Plan the layout

Once you know how many lights you need, it's time to plan the layout. You can either string the lights vertically, horizontally, or in a criss-cross pattern. If you're stringing the lights vertically, be sure to start at the top of the tree and work your way down. If you're stringing the lights horizontally, start at the bottom of the tree and work your way up.

4. Hang the lights

Now it's time to hang the lights. Be sure to use a ladder or step stool to reach the higher branches. Start by wrapping the lights around the trunk of the tree and then working your way out to the branches. Be sure to secure the lights every few feet with zip ties or wire.

5. Plug in the lights

Once the lights are hung, it's time to plug them in. Be sure to use a surge protector to protect the lights from power surges. You can also use a timer to turn the lights on and off automatically.

6. Enjoy the magic

Now that your fairy lights are hung, sit back and enjoy the magic. They're sure to create a beautiful and enchanting atmosphere in your outdoor space.

Additional tips:

  • Be sure to check the lights regularly for any frayed wires or broken bulbs.
  • Never leave the lights on unattended.
  • Take the lights down during storms or high winds.
  • Store the lights in a cool, dry place when not in use.
