How to Make Your Own Outdoor Chair Cushions
Outdoor cushions add style and comfort to any outdoor furniture set. Making your own cushions is a great way to save money and add a personal touch to your outdoor space. With a few simple steps, you can create custom cushions that perfectly match your furniture and style.
Materials You'll Need:
- Outdoor fabric
- Foam or batting
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Velcro or ties
Step 1: Measure and Cut the Fabric
Start by measuring the seat and back of your chair. Cut two pieces of fabric for the seat and two pieces for the back. For the seat, cut the fabric 2 inches wider and longer than the measurement on all sides. For the back, cut the fabric 4 inches wider and longer than the measurement on all sides. These extra inches will be used for the seams and overlap between the seat and back cushions.
Step 2: Sew the Seat Cushions
Place the two pieces of fabric for the seat together, right sides facing, and pin them around the edges. Sew around the edges using a 1/2-inch seam allowance, leaving a 4-inch opening on one side for turning. Turn the cushion right side out through the opening and stuff it with foam or batting. Hand-sew the opening closed.
Step 3: Sew the Back Cushions
Follow the same steps for sewing the back cushions as you did for the seat cushions. However, do not sew the top and bottom edges of the back cushions. This will allow you to insert the seat cushion between the back cushions.
Step 4: Attach the Cushions to the Chair
There are several ways to attach the cushions to the chair. You can use Velcro, ties, or even bungee cords. Simply attach one side of the Velcro or tie to the chair and the other side to the cushion. For bungee cords, thread the cord through the holes in the back of the cushion and attach it to the chair.
Step 5: Style and Enjoy
Once your cushions are attached, you can add any additional touches to complete the look. You can add piping, tassels, or even a skirt to the cushions. You can also choose a fabric that matches your existing outdoor decor or that adds a pop of color.
Tips for Making Outdoor Chair Cushions:
* Choose a durable outdoor fabric that is resistant to fading, water, and mildew. * Use high-quality foam or batting that will not flatten over time. * Double-stitch the seams for extra strength. * Add piping or other embellishments to give your cushions a more finished look. * Make sure to attach the cushions securely to the chair so they don't shift around.Make Your Own Reversible Patio Chair Cushions It Love
