How To Make Outdoor Fire Pit

Having an outdoor fire pit gives you a special place to sit outdoors in the evening, keep warm, and roast marshmallows or hot dogs. Building a fire pit is a fairly simple do-it-yourself project, and you can build one for about the same price as it would cost to buy a pre-made one. Here are the steps to build a fire pit:

Materials:

Fire bricks
Gravel
Sand
Retaining wall blocks
Mortar
Fire pit ring

Instructions:

Choose a location for your fire pit. It should be at least 10 feet away from any structures or trees.
Dig a hole for the fire pit. The hole should be about 2 feet deep and 3 feet wide.
Line the bottom of the hole with gravel. The gravel will help to drain water away from the fire.
Place a layer of sand on top of the gravel. The sand will help to level the surface and provide a firm base for the fire bricks.
Lay the fire bricks in a circle on top of the sand. The fire bricks should be placed close together, but not touching.
Build a retaining wall around the fire pit. The retaining wall will help to keep the fire bricks in place and prevent the fire from spreading.
Place the fire pit ring on top of the retaining wall. The fire pit ring will help to contain the fire.
