How to Light an Outdoor Gas Lamp Post

Outdoor gas lamp posts are a beautiful and functional addition to any home, but they can be a little daunting to light for the first time. However, with a few simple steps, you can get your lamp post up and running in no time.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Before you start, you will need to gather a few materials:

  • A lighter or match
  • A long-reach lighter or wand lighter (optional)
  • A screwdriver (if your lamp post has a removable burner)

Step 2: Turn on the Gas Supply

Once you have your materials, you need to turn on the gas supply. Most lamp posts will have a valve near the base. Simply turn the valve clockwise to open it.

Step 3: Check for Leaks

Before you light the lamp, it is important to check for leaks. To do this, apply a soapy water solution to all of the joints in the gas line. If you see any bubbles forming, there is a leak. Tighten the joint until the bubbles stop appearing.

Step 4: Light the Pilot Light

Most lamp posts have a pilot light that needs to be lit before the main burner can be ignited. The pilot light is usually located near the base of the lamp post. To light the pilot light, hold a lighter or match to the pilot light and turn the gas valve to the "pilot" position. The pilot light should ignite immediately.

Step 5: Light the Main Burner

Once the pilot light is lit, you can light the main burner. To do this, simply turn the gas valve to the "on" position. The main burner should ignite immediately.

Step 6: Adjust the Flame

Once the main burner is lit, you can adjust the flame to the desired height. To do this, use the screwdriver to turn the flame adjustment screw. Turning the screw clockwise will increase the flame height, while turning it counterclockwise will decrease the flame height.

Step 7: Enjoy Your Lamp Post

Once the flame is adjusted, you can sit back and enjoy your outdoor gas lamp post. The warm glow of the lamp will create a beautiful and inviting atmosphere.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you are having trouble lighting your outdoor gas lamp post, here are a few troubleshooting tips:

  • Make sure that the gas supply is turned on.
  • Check for leaks in the gas line.
  • Make sure that the pilot light is lit.
  • Adjust the flame adjustment screw to the desired height.
  • If you are still having trouble, consult the manufacturer's instructions for your specific lamp post.
