How to Get Electricity to an Outdoor Fountain

Adding an outdoor fountain to your landscape can be a great way to add beauty and tranquility to your outdoor space. However, one of the challenges of installing an outdoor fountain is getting electricity to it. Here are a few different ways to do it:

1. Use an Extension Cord

This is the simplest and most straightforward way to get electricity to your fountain. Simply run an outdoor-rated extension cord from a nearby outlet to the fountain. Be sure to use a cord that is long enough to reach the fountain without being taut, and make sure the cord is protected from the elements.

2. Bury an Electrical Line

If you don't want to have an extension cord running across your yard, you can bury an electrical line underground. This is a more permanent solution, but it also requires more work. To bury an electrical line, you will need to dig a trench from the outlet to the fountain. The trench should be at least 18 inches deep and 6 inches wide. Once you have dug the trench, you will need to lay the electrical line in the trench and cover it with dirt.

3. Use a Solar Panel

If you have a sunny spot in your yard, you can use a solar panel to power your fountain. Solar panels are a great way to generate electricity without having to use any wires. To use a solar panel, you will need to mount the panel in a sunny spot and then connect the panel to the fountain. The solar panel will generate electricity during the day, which will power the fountain.

4. Use a Battery

If you don't have access to electricity or solar power, you can use a battery to power your fountain. Batteries are a good option for small fountains that don't require a lot of power. To use a battery, you will need to connect the battery to the fountain. The battery will provide power to the fountain until it needs to be recharged.

Tips for Getting Electricity to an Outdoor Fountain

Here are a few tips for getting electricity to an outdoor fountain:

  • Use a weather-resistant outlet box to protect the outlet from the elements.
  • Use an outdoor-rated extension cord that is long enough to reach the fountain without being taut.
  • If you are burying an electrical line, be sure to use a conduit to protect the line from damage.
  • Use a solar panel that is large enough to generate enough electricity to power the fountain.
  • Use a battery that is large enough to provide power to the fountain for the desired amount of time.
