How To Clean Outdoor Copper Lanterns
Copper lanterns are a beautiful and stylish addition to any outdoor space. However, over time, copper can tarnish and become dull. To keep your copper lanterns looking their best, it is important to clean them regularly. Here are a few tips on how to clean outdoor copper lanterns:
Materials You'll Need:
- Soft cloths
- Mild dish soap
- Water
- Lemon juice
- Salt
- Vinegar
Step 1: Remove Loose Dirt and Debris
To begin, you need to remove loose dirt and debris from the lantern. Use a soft cloth to wipe away any dust or cobwebs. You can also use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to remove any loose dirt.
Step 2: Mix a Cleaning Solution
Next, you need to mix a cleaning solution. In a bucket or bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water with 1/4 cup of mild dish soap. Stir until the solution is well mixed.
Step 3: Apply the Cleaning Solution
Dip a soft cloth into the cleaning solution and wring out any excess water. Apply the solution to the lantern and use a circular motion to clean the surface. Be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies.
Step 4: Rinse the Lantern
Once you have cleaned the lantern, rinse it thoroughly with clean water. You can use a garden hose or a bucket of water to rinse the lantern. Be sure to get all of the cleaning solution off the lantern.
Step 5: Dry the Lantern
Finally, dry the lantern with a soft cloth. You can also use a hair dryer on a low setting to dry the lantern more quickly. Once the lantern is completely dry, you can polish it with a soft cloth to bring out its shine.
Additional Tips:
- If your copper lantern is heavily tarnished, you can use a mixture of lemon juice and salt to clean it. Apply the mixture to the lantern and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, rinse the lantern thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth.
- You can also use vinegar to clean copper lanterns. Apply the vinegar to the lantern and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, rinse the lantern thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth.
- To prevent your copper lantern from tarnishing in the future, you can apply a coat of wax to it. This will help to protect the copper from the elements and keep it looking its best.
