How to Build an Outdoor Propane Fire Pit

An outdoor propane fire pit is an excellent addition to any backyard. It provides warmth and ambiance on cool evenings, and it can also be used for cooking or roasting marshmallows. Building a propane fire pit is a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours. Here are the essential steps:

Materials

  • Propane tank
  • Propane regulator
  • Propane hose
  • Fire pit ring
  • Lava rocks
  • Gravel
  • Sand

Tools

  • Shovel
  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • Wrench

Step 1: Choose a Location

The first step is to choose a location for your fire pit. The location should be at least 10 feet away from any structures or flammable materials. It should also be in a well-ventilated area.

Step 2: Dig a Hole

Once you have chosen a location, you need to dig a hole for the fire pit. The hole should be about 12 inches deep and 24 inches wide. The bottom of the hole should be level.

Step 3: Install the Propane Tank

The next step is to install the propane tank. The tank should be placed in the center of the hole. The regulator should be attached to the tank, and the hose should be connected to the regulator.

Step 4: Fill the Hole with Gravel

Once the propane tank is installed, you need to fill the hole with gravel. The gravel will help to support the fire pit ring and prevent the heat from damaging the ground.

Step 5: Install the Fire Pit Ring

The fire pit ring should be placed on top of the gravel. The ring should be level, and it should be securely anchored in the ground.

Step 6: Fill the Fire Pit with Lava Rocks

The fire pit should be filled with lava rocks. The lava rocks will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the fire from burning too hot.

Step 7: Light the Fire

To light the fire, simply turn on the propane tank and ignite the burner. The fire should burn steadily and evenly.

Tips

  • Always use caution when operating a propane fire pit.
  • Never leave the fire unattended.
  • Keep children and pets away from the fire.
  • Store the propane tank in a cool, dry place when not in use.
